Sports: College Basketball (January)

Like the NBA, I have only half paid attention to college basketball but now that football is winding down, I'll have more time to catch up on the NCAA's men's basketball. I'll take a look at the top ten and see what's in store for the future before March Madness.

1. Villanova Wildcats
The reigning champs remain at the top of the heat asa other teams took the spot but did not make it through after tough losses. Villanova has faced some challenges like Purdue and Creighton. Surprisingly they lost to Butler recently so they may not still be at the top in the next ranking.

2. Baylor Bears
Baylor is undefeated, one of two teams left. They have faced the challenges including Michigan State, Xavier, and Louisville. Their biggest challenge in the Big 12 will be Kansas.

3. Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas is on the trail of barely with one loss to Indiana. Their impressive wins include Duke and they will have to face Baylor a few teams during Conference play and Kentucky near the end of the season.

4. UCLA Bruins
Beating Kentucky put the Bruins at the top of the rankings but a loss to Oregon knocked them down to four. They'll face Oregon again and Arizona as challengers in the PAC-12.

5. Gonzaga Bulldogs
The Gonzaga Bulldogs are moving towards the top as the other undefeated team in the rankings. Iowa State is their only impressive win and they won't face many challenges this season until the tournament.

6. Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky is the team I root for and hope to see succeed. So far they have had two tough losses to Louisville and UCLA but they have defeated North Carolina. Kentucky should have it easy in the SEC until they face Kansas.

7. West Virginia Mountaineers

West Virginia has risen up despite losses to Temple and Texas Tech. They managed to beat Virginia. They'll have to face top-ranked Kansas and Baylor in their Big 12 Conference play this season.
8. Duke Blue Devils

Duke is having a troubled season with players suspended and a sick coach. They've lost to Kansas and recently Virgina Tech. A challenging ACC awaits with top-ranked opponents looking to take them out.
9.  Louisville Cardinals

Louisville has beaten their rival Kentucky but been beaten by Baylor, Notre Dame, and Virginia. They'll continue to have a challenging season against the ACC opponents.
10. Creighton BlueJays

Creighton is another team representing the Big East. There only loss is to number one Villanova. They'll have to face Butler and Xavier and Nova again as they go through the Big East trying to stay in the top ten.

I'm looking forward to college basketball heating up and moving closer to one of the most exciting sporting events, March Madness.
