This past weekend I drove over to Louisville to spend the weekend hearing from writers, publishers, and other creators at the Imaginarium Convention. At the Crown Plaza hotel, I sat in on panels that ranged from writing process, social media marketing , and editing. The vendor room was full of amazing fiction and great displays that made me wish I had thousands or millions more dollars to spends and hours to read.
I spent the majority of my time bouncing from one panel to another trying to hear as much as I could. On Saturday, I got to hear from renowned horror author Brian Keene and the award-winning editor of Apex Magazine Jason Sizemore among many other great writers who were kind enough to take time out of their busy lives to share their knowledge. I learned new strategies for sharing this blog and was introduced to new fiction that I hope to be reviewing soon on here. I came up with some great strategies for writing a novel next month after listening to these authors at work.
I dropped by Dan Jolley's booth to compliment him on his novel Gray Widow's Walk and bought a new graphic novel, I'm excited to read soon. I shook hands on briefly with Stephen Zimmer, publisher for Seventh Star Press, awesome fantasy author, and soon to be the director of the Rayden Valkyrie series. I attended the banquet and watched the recipients of the Imadjinn awards accept their trophies. I learned about research and plotting and the language of fear. All around this was a great experience and I'm already looking forward to next year.
